Thrift Store Success!

Have I mentioned how much I love thrift stores? Because I do. SO much! You can find SO many cool random things, and while some days are definitely hit-or-miss I almost always find something awesome! Be it cute clothes, unique furniture/decor, or old books, etc. ;)It really is so much fun!
I also happen to love changing up the things I find at the thrift store, which brings me to my next set of photos!

One of my favorite things to do there is look through all of the old figurines. I ignore the paint on them (some of which are truly hideous), and look solely at the figure itself, because then I take them home and spray paint them! I found a cute set of owls that I just couldn't resist because I'm slightly Owl-obsessed (read: VERY obsessed, for which I blame Harry Potter), and spray-painted them both this pretty salmon color. I did it just light enough in some areas so you could still see a bit of the feathering underneath, and all-in-all the effect was something I liked!
Don't be afraid to experiment!
I don't have any before-and-after pics, sadly, as I did these LONG before I'd decided to start this blog, but any future ones I find you can be sure I will be documenting it step-by-step! Promise!

Alright, so annoyingly-skewed picture aside, this was one of my favorite finds and one of my first! Again, I am VERY sorry for having no 'Before' shot, but it is what it is. Originally this was a hidden jewelry box with a picture frame in front that hung on the wall; that frame around it is actually a hinged door. SO cool! But I took out the front glass pane and the photo frame and I just leave the door shut. (I should probably glue it shut, actually. Memo to self.) I took it outside and spray painted it white, doing several layers for consistency's sake, and then glued in some scrap-book paper that I liked for the back walls. All-in-all it worked really well! And I'm super happy with my little jewelry display, though it is in desperate need of some organizing...

My latest find was this awesome little pegboard for my earrings!I was in desperate needs for something other than my original jewelry display, since there was NOT enough space for them all... And while it would be pretty easy to DIY this one yourself I was delighted to find one already pre-made for me! Using some wood-paint and a sponge brush I set myself to spongeing it to death. The surface of the pegboard was admittedly not all that accepting of the paint, but it made an almost vintage effect that I ended up liking.
One of the other issues with this one was that it was originally rigged to hang horizontally, but luckily that's an easy fix! All you have to do is buy a pack of these from your local Menards or Home Depot and nail them to the frame! Make sure you center it first!

I'm pretty happy with how they both turned out!

Alright, one more, because I can't resist!
It's not a re-model project, but I needed something to store my tablet in when I wasn't home and while it was charging, so of course I went to my local Goodwill to see what I could find. Luck was on my side and I found a nice wire-rack magazine holder to hang on the wall! It was perfect! So I screwed it to the wall by my bed above the outlet and voila! convenient charging station!

Side note: If you don't already have your own drill set, I highly recommend you buy one! It is the most convenient tool I own, and I think I got my Black and Decker one for a little over $20 at my local Target. Go! Now! Buy one! lol

Re-modeling my thrift store finds is one of my favorite things to do, so you will absolutely be seeing more from me on that front. I highly recommend it! It's so satisfying to get something for cheap that is so-so and Ritz it up to your own personal standards. Try it! Experiment! And if it happens to be a failed attempt, at least you didn't spend a lot of money on it! ;)
That's all for now! Have a great day! :D
